Academics – graduate school of Engineering and Science
The modern and advanced science and technology significantly affect natural circumstances and human societies, and gradually change them. In such present days, those who are concerning with science and technology have to investigate symbioses/balance between human life and circumstances.
The graduate school (engineering division) is organized with two categories; master’s course which is established directly on the undergraduate departments, and doctoral course in which all master’s courses are taken apart and rebuilt into two courses. The figure shows the formation of graduate school of engineering fields. With advancing technical knowledge and researches at undergraduate course, graduate students develop unknown scientific field and improve their own abilities to resolve difficult problems.
In order to answer to requests by society, we generalize and interdisciplinarize sciences and engineering, and develop new research fields. And then, we educate students who progress themselves, learn technical knowledge by themselves, and acquire broad outlook and global sense. Moreover, we open the graduate course to outside and accept some researchers and specialists who are working at industrial companies, and offer them opportunities for high level education and researches. Besides, we accept many international students from many countries and respond to international requests. We, furthermore, settle special international graduate course and strive for more international contribution.
Mechanical Systems Engineering Course
Mechanical Systems Engineering Course consists of three divisions: Design, Analysis and
Processing of Engineering Materials, Thermal and Fluid Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence and
Mathematical Engineering. The course trains students becoming professional engineers and
researchers with advanced knowledge and techniques in the fields of materials, energy, dynamics,
control, and processing.
Design, Analysis and Processing Engineering Materials
|This division provides education and research within the fields of Engineering Materials,
Strength of Materials, Engineering Design Systems, Processing Systems, and Mechanical Systems Dynamics.
|This division offers education and research related to Thermal Engineering, Fluid Engineering,
Heat Transfer, Fluid Machinery, and Energy Systems Engineering.
Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Engineering
|Education and research of this division fall within Measurement Systems,
Control Engineering, Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, and High Energy Manufacturing Processes.
Civil Engineering and Architecture Course
Civil Engineering and Architecture Course consists of three division; Environmental Planning and
Design, Structural Design Engineering, and Environmental Disaster Prevention Engineering. The aim
of this course is to train the students to be professional engineers and researchers who can work
as engineering experts for sustainable development of the earth with consideration of ever lasting
relationship between human and nature, peaceful coexistence of both, and prevention of natural
Environmental Planning and Design
|Education and research topics are; Planning of Civil engineering, Disaster prevention planning,
Urban and regional planning, Architectural planning, Landscape design and Environmental engineering.
Structural Design Engineering
|This division is engaged in education and research within the fields of Elastoplastic
Analysis of Structure, Structural Engineering, Concrete Engineering and Structural Design System.
Environmental Disaster Prevention Engineering
|Education and research fields of this division are in Geomechanics, Foundation Engineering,
Wind and Earthquake Resistant Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, and Coastal Environmental Engineering.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering Course
The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Course is made of three divisions: Electromagnetic Energy Engineering, Electronic Materials Engineering, and Electronic Systems Engineering, where students and young professional engineers are provided with advanced knowledge and up to date techniques in those fields.
Electromagnetic Energy Engineering
|This division offers education and research in the fields of Energy Conversion,
Electric Machinery, Energy Systems, and Power Electronics.
Electronics and Electronic Materials Engineering
|This division provides education and research in the fields of Electronic Circuits, Electronic
Materials, Super-Conductivity, VLSI Circuits.
Electronic Systems Engineering
|This division conducts education and research in the fields of Control Engineering,
Systems Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and Communications Engineering.
Information Engineering Course
Information Engineering Course has two divisions: Computer Systems and Intelligent Systems. Studying from hardware to software consistently,students can develop their talents of research and development to adapt technological society which is made of the Human intelligence, Computer, Communication Network and Media.
|The area of research includes VLSI design and verification, Computer Systems, Operating Systems, Parallel and Distributed Processing, PC-cluster, Digital Signal Processing Multi-Media Communications Bioinformatics.|
|The research areas are Intelligent Information Processing, Intelligent Robotics, Intelligent Systems, Complex Systems and Genetic Information Processing.|

Material, Structural and Energy Engineering Course
This course consists of two divisions: Processing Development Engineering,
and Energy Development Engineering. Education and research in the divisions are in Intelligent
Material, Design and Processing, Thermal and Fluid Transfer, Energy Conversion,
Seismic Performance and Durability, and Ocean Development.
Processing Development Engineering
|Research and development in the following fields are prompted; Intelligent Materials, Search for Materials Design and Material Evaluation, Creation of New Materials, and Utilization of Resource which have not yet been utilized.|
Interdisciplinary Intelligent Systems Engineering Course
and Electronics and Information Engineering, offer education and research in the fields of Urban Environmental Design,
Intelligent Design and Planning Technology for the Living Environment, Intelligent Systems Engineering,
Electric and Electronic Systems, Intelligent Robotics, and Control and Information Engineering.
Environment and Information Engineering
|Research and development are promoted in the following fields: Environmental
Architectural Planning, Urban Planning Systems, Architectural Design for the Tropics,
Social Space Systems, Evolutionary Computation, Natural Language Processing,
Biological Cybernetics, Software Systems, and Parallel and Distributed Systems.
Electronics and Information Engineering
|Research and development are made in the following fields: Electric
and Electronic Control Systems, Electronic Measurement Systems,
Electromagnetic Field Theory, System Stability, Intelligent Systems,
and Optimal System Design.
Marine and Environmental Sciences

With the consecutiveness of the Undergraduate courses,
Master’s Program will be more flexible in its education and research,
offering new and interdisciplinary fields of studies and research.Four major
engineering courses lead to a degree of Master of Engineering in Mechanical
Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Electrical
and Electronics Engineering, and Information Engineering.
The doctoral Program will be able to respond to rapid advancement of science
and technology of today and future by organizing the faculty and research staff
in the Faculty of Engineering so that they offer new frontier interdisciplinary
and overlapping high-tech fields of research and studies; and, particularly,
attractive fields which are relevant to the subtropical and oceanographic
environment of our university. The program consists of two courses,
each of which leads to a degree of Doctor of Engineering. Graduate students
will first decide their own subjects of study and study plans under conduct
of their professors and engage themselves in research works. The students also
take several advanced courses so that they can comprehend fundamental theories
and widely adaptable knowledge and techniques for future professional engineering
